First Week of Kindergarten!

We had a wonderful first couple of days of Kindergarten!  We spent much of these two days meeting many new faces in the school and learning the routines.  The children did a wonderful job and were energetic learners!

We began by taking a tour of the classroom and learning about the different spaces in our room.  A few favorite parts are the kitchen/play area, the blocks, and drawing!  Many friends also liked the window seats in the classroom library!  We also created expectations for using some of the materials in the classroom, such as markers, crayons and colored pencils.  We then used some of these materials to create our first day of school self portraits.  They look great!  We also read Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten and talked about all of the ways we got ready for Kindergarten....packing school supplies, packing a snack, getting dressed, or eating breakfast.  We then made a class book to put in our library!  We also ready Chrysanthmum by Kevin Henkes and talked about the number of letters in our name.  Each child had a name puzzle to complete and then we made a graph to see who has the most letters and who had the fewest.  The children made some wonderful math observations as we looked at the graph!

Be sure to ask your child about...
  • P.E. with Mrs. Olson and Art with Mr. Boardman
  • Lunch in the cafeteria
  • Playing on the playground
  • Reading Peanut Butter and Cupcake, Chrysanthemum, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten
  • Our Morning Meeting songs:  Alligator Chomp and Shake Your Hands
  • Our Morning Meeting greetings: Hickety Pickety and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
  • Dancing to Purple Stew, Pop See Ko, and Roller Coaster on Go Noodle
  • Choice Time...kitchen play, drawing, building with legos and blocks, and a puppet theater
Here are a few pictures from the first two days!

Have a wonderful long weekend!  See you on Tuesday!
